outfit post: my winter uniform

0 comments

So...this is what I basically wear every day in winter, as long as it's not raining.  Although it does rain a lot here in the Pacific Northwest, so swap out my red coat for my rain coat, and you have my average outfit for the rest of the time.

I just love that a statement coat, a nice pair of jeans, and a good pair of boots is so so simple, and yet you look nice and put together.  I really like no fuss outfits.

Also, this coat is my favorite.  Totally one of those clothing items that gets compliments from total strangers.  I love it.

red coat: plenty // jeans: aeo // socks: urban outfitters // boots: steve madden // toque: foreverxxi

Umm...about the snow.  These photos were taken in Whistler a couple months ago, definitely not here in Abbotsford.  I'm a procrastinator, what can I say?

weekly wrap up : mountains & music

0 comments
Oh dear, where to even start! This week has been absolutely packed full to the brim for me... I kicked it off with a trip to Jasper National Park, where I was shooting an engagement shoot - so Caleb and I made a little getaway out of it and went snowboarding with my clients (so fun! I have the best job ever), ate lots of yummy food, stayed at a cozy little church, went snowshoeing, and enjoyed the beauty of God's creation! It feels like its been ages since we've been in the mountains, so this was such a treat for us!

The rest of the week has been me being sick =( ...studying, writing papers, editing photoshoots, and then hitting up a great evening of wonderful music here in Edmonton at a local place called The Artery. A tad sketchy looking, but our friends were playing and it was such fun! Go check White Lightning's stuff on youtube, I promise they won't disappoint :)

diy : dreamy floral crown

0 comments
This DIY was inspired by a Valentines Day photoshoot that I've been planning for the past couple weeks. I've been dying to make a flower crown and to have it as a prop in a photoshoot, so this was just a blast for me to make! Hope you enjoy the loveliness that's about to ensue :)
{  s u p p l i e s }

- fake flowers!

I stuck with just a couple of big fake peonies and then picked up a lot of "greenery" to get a more natural look. I found some fake twigs, lots of leaves, and a couple of white flowery accents

- wire  &  wire cutters

 - floral tape

{  i  n  s  t  r  u  c  t  i  o  n  s  }

1. Measure your piece of wire so that it fits around your head and cut it at the proper length with your wire cutters. I doubled my wire to make my crown a little more stable.
2. Cut your flowers/leaves/twigs down to manageable pieces. Start with a couple pieces and wrap your green floral tape around them and the wire.
3. Repeat step 2 all the way around your wire! It's okay if you start off sparse, I filled my crown with a couple layers to make it more full.
4. Close off your wire, make sure there's no wire showing by wrapping floral tape around. Feel free to use a glue gun to secure loose pieces....

and voila! you have yourself a beautiful, dreamy, and absolutely lovely floral crown =)

Keep your eyes open for more from my Valentines Day shoot. The big reveal is tomorrow and I'm absolutely giddy with how lovely and dreamy this photoshoot turned out!

For today's outfit, I'm showing off my latest DIY - the "oh deer" bleached tank top. This has quickly become one of my favouite tops to pair with plaid flannels and oversized sweaters. It's just SO comfy and I probably wear it too much, but I feel absolutely no shame. It's that great. Parka : Aritzia  /  Toque : Korea  /  Mitts : Dollarama  /  Flannel top : Garage  /
Tank Top : thrifted & diy'ed  /  Jeans : thrifted  /  Boots : Spring
Bracelets : wrap around made & gifted to me from Kelsey, the wooden beads are from Korea, and the others are from H&M

diy : 3-step snow terrarium

0 comments
I apologize for not posting this before Christmas, since this DIY makes such a great Christmas gift, but here it is: a lovely 3-step wintery snow terrarium that makes for a charming winter decoration!

All you need is: a glass bowl, double-sided poster tape, winter figurines, and fake snow (ie. ripped up pieces of tissue paper, glitter, etc.)

Here's all you need to do in 3 easy steps...

Simple & charming, this DIY can be recycled in the spring by easily popping out the winter figurines and replacing them with "spring" ones  (or summer, or fall, or st.patty's day, really, anything!) Mine's sitting on my kitchen shelf along with some vintage books and our flour and sugar :)
