outfit post: my winter uniform

So...this is what I basically wear every day in winter, as long as it's not raining.  Although it does rain a lot here in the Pacific Northwest, so swap out my red coat for my rain coat, and you have my average outfit for the rest of the time.

I just love that a statement coat, a nice pair of jeans, and a good pair of boots is so so simple, and yet you look nice and put together.  I really like no fuss outfits.

Also, this coat is my favorite.  Totally one of those clothing items that gets compliments from total strangers.  I love it.

Umm...about the snow.  These photos were taken in Whistler a couple months ago, definitely not here in Abbotsford.  I'm a procrastinator, what can I say?

outfit post: cat tights

An important step you must complete on your way to becoming a crazy cat lady is purchasing a pair of cat tights.  I can now check that off my to-do list!

I have absolutely no shame, and am so so in love with these.  I first wore them in Edmonton when I was out visiting Clara, and to say she was a bit horrified would be an understatement. Ha!  She's not really a cat person, and I got quite a bit of enjoyment over her revulsion.

(She does like kittens though....so all hope is not lost yet).

Anyway, moving on....This dress is the newest in my quite large collection of lace dresses.  It's mint lace, has a sweetheart neckline, short sleeves, and the length actually hits my knees instead of mid-thigh like every other dress out there.  I can't wait for the weather to warm up so that I can wear it without tights!

I got it on a wicked sale at urban outfitters, so it was dirt cheap.  Man, do I love sales!

These photos were taken in Edmonton by Clara (thank you again!), as you maybe guessed by all the snow!  Did I mention that it was a balmy 12 degrees and beautifully sunny in Abbotsford today?  (For those of you who live in California/southern U.S.,/southern hemisphere this is something to brag about!)

I hope you all are having a lovely weekend!

“There are always some lunatics about. It would be a dull world without them.”
― Arthur Conan DoyleThe Red Headed League

Though in this quote Sherlock Holmes is probably referring to those that are criminally loony, I like to think us oddballs that are not quite so nefarious (as perhaps Professor Moriarty is), also make the world a more interesting place!

I am sure if you have been on the internet at all in the last couple of weeks you know that the third season of BBC's Sherlock just aired.  Kelsey and I are definitely Sherlock fans, and we watched the last episode yesterday.  I still feel like my brain is trying to figure out everything that happened over the season!  We both really enjoyed it!

As you may remember, I love doing "subtle costumes", so when I saw this coat, I knew I just had to have it for a subtle Sherlock Holmes!

“It is a great thing to start life with a small number of really good books which are your very own.”
― Arthur Conan Doyle

I could not agree with Sir Arthur more.  I believe the possession of a good book is a very powerful thing indeed!
(But I also take the precaution of a long coat!)

movember diy: acrylic paint t-shirt makeover

So long Movember... as a salute to you, I made a shirt. It's really easy.
And it goes a little something like this.....

what you need:  acrylic paint,  a paintbrush,  a white shirt (I thrifted mine for just a couple bucks at the local goodwill!),  a cutting board,  a cute quote about movember

what you do:  take your white shirt, stick a cutting board in-between the front of the shirt and the back (so that the paint doesn't leak to the backside) and simply paint away! I free-handed everything since I was feeling too lazy to make a stencil. I started with an outline of a mustache and just started to roughly fill it in. Then I filled in my quote with different fonts and just had fun with it!
Let your paint dry, run it through the wash (and don't worry, acrylic paint is very very permanent!), and then mix + match it with your wardrobe!

So long Movember!

outfit post: peter pan collar & pastels

I really really love peter pan collars.
I'm shocked that my wardrobe doesn't contain more items with them, but I'm working on remedying that.  I found this top on ruche during a mega sale, and I'm in love!  I love pale pinks, and the lace detailing is just lovely.  I paired it with my mint pants and simple flats, and since it's Fall, and a bit chilly, I added my new favorite navy blazer for warmth!

In other news, I'm off the Edmonton to visit Clara TOMORROW!   I cannot even express how excited I am.  I love that girl so much!

Uniquely You - Coach Tour dress

I was asked to participate in ModCloth's Uniquely You campaign by styling their Coach Tour Dress in Noir.
Now this may come as a shock to some of you....but I had never actually used polyvore before.  I had been on the site before, and love scrolling through the outfits others come up with, but I had never put together a collage myself.  All I can say is...dang, it's harder than it looks to arrange things nicely!  So, here's my first attempt.  I loved the simplicity of this little black dress, and decided to play up the gold accents with some delicate gold jewelry (and yes, those are cat earrings....I try to hide the cat lady inside of me, but sometimes she sneaks out).  Wine coloured tights, and an emerald bag gave it a bit of colour, making it perfect to wear to a Christmas party.  It's never too early to plan ahead!

outfit post: vintage floral skirt

Jordyn found this gem of a skirt in a vintage thrift shop in downtown Abby, and I'm kind of insanely jealous of it.  It's high-waisted, floral, and overall just lovely.  Let's just say that I'll probably be attempting to "steal" it from her in the near future.

I also would like to think that I had a bit of influence in the styling of this skirt...since Jordyn decided to pair it with a delicate lace top, and a simple grey cardigan.  Definitely something I would do.  I think my style suggestions are slowly being absorbed by her brain!  Resistance is futile.
